Title: Substance Use Prevention: What Every School Counselor Needs to Know
Presenter Bio: Chloe Lancaster, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in Counselor Education and a former middle school special education teacher and elementary school counselor. She teaches graduate courses in substance abuse counseling to school counselors in training, co-chairs the Shelby County Health Department's Data Integration Taskforce for Opioids, and provides consultation to substance use prevention coalitions.
Session Synopsis:
Adolescent substance use has markedly increased since the COVID pandemic, as has the lethality of street-manufactured drugs. The intersection of these disturbing trends has resulted in an unprecedented number of overdose fatalities involving youth and underscores the need for more compelling school-based substance use prevention programming. This presentation will arm school counselors with the information, strategies, and resources to implement up-to-date, evidence-based substance use prevention and identify free evidence-based resources to strengthen school counselors' current prevention efforts.
